Stakeholder Engagement

  • We produce these monthly updates to share information on key progress on our Enlli tidal project. Please contact us on the details below if you have any questions or comments, or you would like to discuss anything with us.

  • We have a bilingual website for our Enlli tidal project. The Enlli website which can be viewed at www.enllitidal.com provides key information on the project.

  • You can also keep up to date on the latest news and progress on the Enlli tidal project and Nova’s other exciting tidal energy projects around the world by following us on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook. For the latest news from YnNi Llŷn, you can also follow them on Twitter and Facebook.

Key Nova Progress

  • We would like to take the opportunity to thank all our readers for your ongoing interest in Nova’s Enlli tidal project and wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and peaceful 2023.

  • Work is ongoing on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Enlli project, which is assessing its potential effects on the environment, wildlife and cultural heritage of the area, as well as any socio-economic effects. Examples of the EIA work completed in November and December are provided below.

  • Consultants carried out a survey of the potential cable landfall point at Aberdaron in December and an investigation of underground utilities for the onshore area was also completed. These will help inform the design and assessment of onshore components of the project.

  • Consultants completed a marine survey strategy report in December. This looked at a wide range of site conditions, including the bathymetry, ecology, geology, seabed sediments, tidal currents, wrecks, obstructions and potential unexploded ordnance risks. The report also looked at navigational considerations relating to vessel, fishing and potting activity in the area. These will all help to inform the types of survey offshore that will be needed for the project.

  • Work has been completed in December to carry out detailed analysis of the tidal flow conditions in Bardsey Sound to help inform the design of the project including the turbine design and layout. This analysis has used data gathered in Bardsey Sound by Bangor University.

  • We have worked with the Seawatch Foundation and Bangor University to complete 12-months of bird and mammal surveys in Bardsey Sound. The data are now being analysed and used to assess the potential effects of the project on marine mammals and birds, as part of the EIA.

  • In November, the Guardian published an article on tidal stream energy and the contribution it can make to helping meet the UK’s energy needs. The article which features Nova’s Director of Business, John Meagher can be read online here.

Key YnNi Llŷn progress

  • Wil is continuing to work with Ambition North Wales to explore opportunities for creating a Smart Local Energy System and supporting local decarbonisation and economic growth on the Llŷn.

Key activity planned for January

  • Work in January will continue to focus on the Enlli project EIA, which will be completed by July 2023.

  • Nova and YnNi Llŷn are keen to speak to anyone who has an interest in the project. Please contact Nova on 0131 241 2000 info@novainnovation.com or YnNi Llŷn on 07500 894331 wil@ynnillyn.cymru
